Synchronised Automotive Vehicle Lifter

A UK based luxury sports car manufacturer approached Advanced Industrial Engineering (AIE) to solve the challenge of engineering a synchronised vehicle lifting system. The system requirement was for the safe and effective lifting of vehicles by its technicians to carry out work as and when required.

Advanced Industrial Engineering Ltd, founded in 2015, is a privately owned and operated company based in the UK.

Technical requirements

  • Safe and efficient lifting of vehicles
  • Able to raise the front or rear of the vehicle independently if required (Max independent lift height circa 300mm).
  • Lifters must be able to work fully controlled, synchronised with full positional control.
  • Maximum lifting weight circa 1500kg
  • Maximum lifting height 1250mm in height.

The process

The team at AIE set about creating a solution to fulfil the customers’ requirements. The process started with a mechanical concept design that then became a 2D/3D CAD design. All relevant calculations and studies were carried out to ensure the system would be safe and efficient for the customers technicians. The concept was presented to the customer for review and sign off before starting the process of prototype development.

Development & FAT Testing

The prototype was built and tested at the AIE workshop in Measham, where improvements were made and documented to ensure the best solution was engineered for the customer. Once the system development phase was concluded, a pair of lifters were put through a rigorous set of FAT (Final acceptance tests). These tests were witnessed by the customer in the AIE workshop facility, any changes that were requested were documented and completed. Once final sign off was given by the customer, the remaining lifting units were manufactured in readiness for delivery to the customer’s site.

Installation & commissioning at the customer’s site

The complete set of lifters were delivered by AIE’s installation and commissioning team. The equipment was set up and the customers technicians and maintenance team were trained on how to use and support the equipment.

Documentation

The customer was issued with a complete set of supporting documentation, including operation manual, maintenance manuals and technical file. The equipment was issued with a CE certificate.
