At Advanced Industrial Engineering Ltd (AIE), we get asked to look at lots of different challenges!
Typically, the bulk of our RFQ’s come from our Automotive customers, however we still work with partners in other industries on challenges that are a little different.
We were approached by a market leader of Polyfibre Dispensing Systems to support them on a project.
The challenge was to manufacture a bespoke fibre dosing unit or sometimes known as a weigher.
These systems are industrial weighing scales, used in the concrete and construction materials industry.
How do they work...
Fibres are weighed out and then ribbon fed via a variable speed drive into a blower system, which disperses and "fluffs" the fibre increasing its volume roughly fivefold, before blowing it into the aggregate stream as it discharges into the mixer.
This process of premixing with the aggregate (rather than dumping fibre straight into the mixer) gives much better dispersion and avoids the clumping that can happen with manual fibre addition.
Load cells measure the weight of fibres going in in real time, feeding that signal to a control panel/PLC. Once the target weight is reached the control systems shuts off the feed system. Each batch gets a precisely measured, repeatable dose of admixture.
How did we solve this challenge...
Our approach was the same as with every other customer, understand the challenge, gather all the information needed and communicate clearly with the customer during the development of the solution.

A fully operational system was delivered successfully from initial enquiry through to sign off at the customer’s site. The system was CE marked and a full technical file supplied.
